Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in Florida.

You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. CPT offers a structured path to healing so you can feel safe, grounded, and whole again.

Trauma can shape the way you see yourself, others, and the world. Over time, it can leave you feeling stuck in patterns of fear, avoidance, or self-blame. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a research-backed, evidence-based trauma treatment available in Florida that gives you tools to rewrite those patterns, rebuild your confidence, and reclaim your life.

Whether you’re in Orlando, Daytona, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, or anywhere else in Florida, virtual CPT sessions can help you move toward lasting healing.

You don’t have to live like this forever.

What is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)?

Cognitive Processing Therapy, or CPT, is a short-term, evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD. Typically completed in about 12 sessions, CPT helps you identify “stuck points”—the thoughts and beliefs that keep you feeling trapped in fear, shame, or guilt.

Instead of forcing you to relive every detail of your trauma, CPT focuses on how those experiences shaped your thinking. Together, we’ll work to reshape those thoughts so you can move forward with greater peace and confidence.

How Can Cognitive Processing Therapy Help You?

CPT has been clinically proven to help many people heal after trauma. With this therapy, you can:

  • Reduce feelings of guilt, shame, or self-blame that you find yourself constantly experiencing.

  • Break free from avoidance and start living fully again on your terms.

  • Learn tools to challenge overwhelming and negative thought patterns that may cause you to second-guess yourself.

  • Improve relationships and trust in others without feeling like you’re making a mistake.

  • Feel more grounded, safe, and in control of your life in ways you can feel proud of.

Whether in South Florida, Central Florida, or North Florida, CPT is a flexible, research-backed therapy that can meet you where you are.

Who is Eligible for Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)?

Because Cognitive Processing Therapy is a structured, research-based treatment, not everyone will be a good fit for this approach. CPT works best when certain criteria are met, and part of the intake process is making sure it’s the right therapy for you.

CPT May Be a Good Fit If You:

  • Have experienced a traumatic event and meet criteria for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

  • Are able to commit to a structured, time-limited treatment (typically around 12 sessions).

  • Are not in immediate crisis or in need of a higher level of care.

  • Are not experiencing active psychosis or unmanaged severe substance use.

  • Are comfortable with, or open to, completing short practice assignments between sessions (CPT uses worksheets and written reflections as part of the healing process).

Note: If you’re not sure whether CPT is the right fit, I’ll help you explore your options during our consultation. Other forms of trauma therapy may be recommended depending on your needs.

What to Expect in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) Sessions

CPT is structured, collaborative, and focused on giving you practical skills. During our work together, you can expect:

  • To explore the beliefs you’ve developed because of trauma.

  • To learn and practice strategies for shifting unhelpful thoughts.

  • Steady, step-by-step progress at a pace that feels manageable.

  • No requirement to share every detail of your trauma story for CPT to be effective.

The skills you gain in CPT are tools you can continue to use long after therapy ends. Basically, helping you to become your own therapist and help you feel confident in your skills.

  • Nope! This is one of the things that makes CPT different from some of the other trauma therapies. You won’t have to tell your entire trauma story. I’ll ask some general questions about it to get an idea of the context. But instead of getting into all the little details, it focuses on your beliefs and thoughts related to what happened.
